Facebook, Here Comes Google+

June 28, 2011, exactly three days ago has been the historical launch date of yet another promising social networking site on the world wide web – Google+. The latest talk in town is that Google+ is another attempt by Google to rival Facebook as the current number one social networking site with over 750 million users worldwide. With statistics like that, it only takes the bold to even think about competing. But Google is bold. With Google's previous fail attempts, it seemed that this time they created something that Facebook could actually be scared of. Bold really. Will Google+ be the next social media leader? Hmm, we have watch out for that. This is history in the making. If it is big, then it will only be a matter of time.

Google+ has applications of the right blend that Facebook didn't quite come up with really well. Google is in hopes of making connections among people on the web more like connecting in the real world. Now that is big. Google+ will bring back the real meaning of “friends” - that is people you really know and could trust. That is one of Google+'s applications that is getting a lot of raves.

Yahoo! The First Search Engine On The Web

Two years before Google came out there was already Yahoo!. It was the first search engine on the world wide web. It has paved the way for other search engines to be conceived. Together they have changed the way we gather information and communicate. Those breakthroughs in the world of the Internet really have changed and become part of our lives.

Yahoo! was founded in 1994 by Stanford PhD candidates Jerry Yang and David Filo. They were both graduate students of electrical engineering during that time in Stanford. Two of the best search engine sites were conceived in Stanford University, I just noticed. Google was a research project in Stanford. To keep track of the websites that interest them best, the duo created a website called “David and Jerry's Guide To The World Wide Web” a directory of other websites organized in hierarchy. “David and Jerry's Guide To The World Wide Web was renamed Yahoo! In 1994. "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle" is a backronym for Yahoo!. The yahoo.com domain was created on January 18, 1995. Yahoo! has grown so rapidly in the 1990s and eventually became a web portal. During the dot come bubble, Yahoo! shares are relatively high priced. During the bubble burst, it depreciated but Yahoo! was one of those sites that survived unlike other that have stopped operating.

What Happened To Friendster?

I can still remember when Friendster was in its hey days. My first account on the web aside from my email, of course, is with Friendster. It was the granddaddy of social networking media, let us admit it, even before MySpace and Facebook has taken over the limelight. It functions like Facebook and has a lot of applications too. It allows its users to build connections of friends, upload photos and videos and enables comment sharing and a lot of other things.

I Am Google, I Know Everything

There is this famous line inspired by Google which is suited for people who have know-it-all attitudes. “Unless your name is Google, stop acting like you know everything”. Ha-ha. Google didn't just end up being a recognized english word in dictionaries, it has even managed to inspire quotations. Nice. Alright, kidding aside let us look into the creation of Google. Let us go back to the time when Google is not even a word. Let us start from its conception years, back to the time when web search seemed to take forever.

Google is the most widely used web-based search engine in the world. You search something, a term or word, a place, a person, an event, everything, Google gives you answers through a million plus search hit results. With its eight billion and still counting number of indexed web pages, Google is the number one search engine to date.

Say It In 140 Characters

A hundred and forty character is most associated with Twitter. Why a hundred and forty? We will talk about that later. First we have to go back to the time when Twitter is still at its modest years. Modest in terms of users and in terms of growth. It is a given right now that Twitter is becoming big, huge even, joining the ranks of Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and other high ranking websites and social networking media.
