Facebook, Here Comes Google+

June 28, 2011, exactly three days ago has been the historical launch date of yet another promising social networking site on the world wide web – Google+. The latest talk in town is that Google+ is another attempt by Google to rival Facebook as the current number one social networking site with over 750 million users worldwide. With statistics like that, it only takes the bold to even think about competing. But Google is bold. With Google's previous fail attempts, it seemed that this time they created something that Facebook could actually be scared of. Bold really. Will Google+ be the next social media leader? Hmm, we have watch out for that. This is history in the making. If it is big, then it will only be a matter of time.

Google+ has applications of the right blend that Facebook didn't quite come up with really well. Google is in hopes of making connections among people on the web more like connecting in the real world. Now that is big. Google+ will bring back the real meaning of “friends” - that is people you really know and could trust. That is one of Google+'s applications that is getting a lot of raves.

What Happened To Friendster?

I can still remember when Friendster was in its hey days. My first account on the web aside from my email, of course, is with Friendster. It was the granddaddy of social networking media, let us admit it, even before MySpace and Facebook has taken over the limelight. It functions like Facebook and has a lot of applications too. It allows its users to build connections of friends, upload photos and videos and enables comment sharing and a lot of other things.

Say It In 140 Characters

A hundred and forty character is most associated with Twitter. Why a hundred and forty? We will talk about that later. First we have to go back to the time when Twitter is still at its modest years. Modest in terms of users and in terms of growth. It is a given right now that Twitter is becoming big, huge even, joining the ranks of Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and other high ranking websites and social networking media.

Let's talk About YouTube

YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share and view videos. It is the third most visited website according to Alexa, after Google and Facebook. It was created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. Hurley studied design at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Chen and Karim both studied computer science at the University of Illinois. The idea of creating YouTube have a lot of varying speculations. One which is very famous is that Hurley and Chen had experienced difficulty sharing videos shot at a dinner party at Chen's San Francisco apartment due to email attachments limitations. That's when the idea about YouTube originally sparked. Another speculation is that YouTube started out as a dating site dubbed “Tune In Hook Up”. The domain name YouTube.com was activated on February 14, 2005. After the launch the founders had to struggle for finances. In November 2005, however, a lot of people and companies have invested large sums of money to keep YouTube running. In its initial operation, the site was flooded by an overwhelming number of videos uploaded on a daily basis. On November 9, 2006 YouTube was purchased by Google for US$1.65 billion in stock.

How Facebook Came To Be

Facebook as we all know, is the biggest networking site today. It has become a part of our lives. Its creator Mark Zuckerberg has indeed become successful in making the world more open and made it possible for people to connect. But how did Facebook start? What made it to become today's phenomenon?

Facebook is Mark Zuckerberg's baby conceived in Harvard specifically in his dorm room during his sophomore year. That baby has grown really big right now that it literally has taken over the world with more than half a billion active users worldwide.

Mark Zuckerberg: The Genius Behind Facebook

Who doesn't know mark Zuckerberg? Who doesn't know about Facebook? Who doesn't know that Mark Zuckerberg is the genius behind Facebook? I guess we all know that. This article is dedicated to that person who has indeed connected a lot of people through a very well known social networking site in the world today.

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg born on May 14, 1984 at White Plains New York is the founder, chief executive and president of Facebook, today's social networking phenomenon. It is quite impossible not to attach Facebook with the name Mark Zuckerberg. But let us backtrack a bit. Let us go back to the time before Facebook became a total phenomenon or even before Facebook came to be. Zuckerberg is a son to a dentist father and a psychiatrist mother and a brother to three sisters before he became a person worth thirteen billion dollar and counting. At an early age Mark has indeed exhibited intellect and excelled in math, astronomy science and classical studies. He used to win prizes for different contests. He is also a fencing star and captain of the fencing team when he was in high school. He knows languages like French, Hebrew, Latin and Ancient Greek. He has a Chinese-American girlfriend so he also studies Mandarin. Mark has a green-red color blindness and sees blue best. That might be the reason why Facebook's main color is blue.

Let Us Backtrack A Bit

My past blog posts have been articles with topics related mostly to social net working. I have been using the names of major networking sites many times. Facebook for example. I have been mentioning this major social networking site in almost all my posts. In fact I have been tagging it several times. My blog is focused on this topic so I will only be writing articles related to it. Social networking is quite a broad and relatively interesting topic. But I acknowledge the fact that eventually I will find it hard to write interesting articles or my articles would just get boring since I'm just talking about the same thing over and over without even noticing it. Those are problems commonly encountered by a lot of bloggers especially those who have been in the business for a long while. So I will backtrack a bit. I will be talking about how these social networking sites came to be. Before these social networking sites became almost indispensable these days, we will look at how they were created. So how was that? Still boring? =)

When Social Networking Ain't Fun

Social networking is the latest trend on the world wide web. You are so out of the scene when you don't have a Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or LinkeIn account. A lot of people have accounts of all four major social networking sites I have just mentioned. This is not only for the younger generations but young and old alike are getting hooked on this phenomenon. Do know somebody who doesn't have a Facebook account? Their species is getting smaller in number by the minute. Eventually they will be extinct because hey, let's face it, we live in a world of the internet. We have to keep up with the times.

Getting Down To Business Through Networking Sites

Networking sites were never exclusive for personal use. Facebook is not just for college kids who want to have their party photos shown in public. YouTube practically has all kinds of patrons. And Twitter, well who cant do tweeting? What I'm saying is that these networking sites are being used practically by everybody. Business people use these networking sites in getting down to business. Businesses these days at least have Facebook and Twitter accounts. What are those for? To answer that, let's go back to the main purpose of networking sites. Connectivity. Which is very important to business.

I Learned That You Can Unfriend A Friend On Facebook

My fellow boarder is a nocturnal being and when I saw her yesterday afternoon I get to chat with her just about a lot of things. She happened to have her day off from working a 16-hour shift from the hospital. She works as a nurse. Im actually asking her a favor to download the latest songs of Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan. She was so happy about her day off that she even offered me to do FBing on her laptop. Being the abusive me, I gave in to the temptation of social networking. =)
